NUCCA Services

What to expect:

Consultation > Make measurements > Discuss NUCCA treatment plan

NUCCA Consultation

NUCCA Consultation

  • First, we will discuss your circumstances and pain.
NUCCA Precision Analysis

Precision Analysis

  • Next, precise measurements of spinal imbalance are taken.
  • If it is determined that the NUCCA spinal correction will benefit you,
Dr. Stehmeier will perform mathematical analysis to determine your first
    spinal correction.
NUCCA Precision Correction

Precision Correction

  • Once the spinal imbalance has been determined, Dr. Stehmeier will perform
some subtle and light corrections. You will often feel light pressure on
contact, and will only take a few minutes. It takes very little shifting of the
    bones to relieve nerve pressure.
  • We will then verify that the best correction has been made.
NUCCA Going Forward

Going Forward

  • The first correction is labour intensive and important because the better we
do the initial correction, the better chance you will have for healing quickly
and be doing well for longer periods of time.
  • Your healing will be monitored at follow-up visits, however recovery holds as
long as the adjustment holds and spinal balance is maintained. Further
treatments are only needed if the body demonstrates continued
    misalignment.

Active Release Therapy Services

Active Release Therapy Services

We also provide ART services at our practice.

What is it? > What causes soft tissue injury? > What happens on a visit?

Active Release Therapy is a soft tissue management system based on a series of set protocols. Active Release Technique, (ART), has been developed, refined, and patented by P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP. Dr. Leahy noticed that his patients’ symptoms seemed to be related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt by hand. By observing how muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves responded to different types of work, Dr. Leahy was able to consistently resolve over 90% of his patients’ problems.
What happens with soft tissue injury?

What happens with soft tissue injury?

Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:

  • acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc),
  • accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
  • not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons cause tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.

What happens on an ART visit?

What happens on a visit?

Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

These treatment protocols – over 500 specific moves – are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.

ART Conclusion

ART Conclusion

Most healthcare providers use techniques of massage, trigger point, electrical modalities and ultrasound with varying degrees of specificity to treat soft tissue problems. These all provide reasonable results but sometimes a different approach is needed.

ART is patented because it is different than anything else. This protects the public from healthcare providers who are willing to do it half way. To learn ART, a health care provider must be serious enough to invest a great deal of time and effort to learn over 500 treatment moves or “protocols.” More important than that, they must be able to develop a very advanced “feel” for the tissues and their texture, tension and movement. Active Release Technique is an advanced system that has helped thousands of individuals all over the world, from the sedentary individual to those who participate in triathlons. ART is for everybody!

ICBC Coverage

We make dealing with ICBC easy.

Have you been hurt in a car accident? Studies suggest that vehicle impact with speeds as little as 10km/hr can create whiplash and other musculoskeletal injuries. Failure to treat the problem quickly can result in longer lasting residual effects.

Fortunately, ICBC has created a program in association with the BC Chiropractic association to help those individual who have been involved in a car accident. When an individual enrolls in this program, they can receive chiropractic treatment at no cost to them, meaning, no co-pays!

The only information we need from you is an ICBC generated claim number and we do the rest. In some cases, individuals do not even feel pain or discomfort until a month or more after the accident, so don’t wait until the pain starts to start taking care of yourself.
